PLANT OPERATOR TRAINING

Following Petronas Petchem Business request, MENTOR has so far trained and coached approximately 100 fresh Diploma holders to be trained as Process Technicians for Petronas Petrochemical Plants for one (1) year training period.


The objective is to train and coach fresh Diploma holder’s Trainees so that at the end of the program, they will have the necessary fundamental knowledge and plant experience to enable them to qualify and work in various Petronas Petrochemical Plants as Grade 10 Plant Operation Technician.

Our Trainers have vast operating experience in plant operations and hence capable to conduct such training, coaching and mentoring. The training is divided into 2 Phases:-

Phase 1: Classroom Training (6 months)

  • The Trainees will be introduced to the “Common Subjects” for the first month and t the “Core Subjects” for the remaining period.
  • During the training,
    • MENTOR will prepare and make available all training materials & questionnaires
    • MENTOR’s personnel will deliver lectures and lead the discussion & tutorial sessions
  • There will be written examinations after completion of each subject
  • One objective is to imprint on the mindsas to how they should perform to meet Petronas expectations and be fully aware of the DOs and DON’Ts in the working environment
  • All Trainees will have to pass the necessary tests and examinations.

Phase 2: On Job Training (6 months)

  • MENTOR coaches and conduct regular assessment, monitor progress, provide specialized training on a need basis and gives one-to-one coaching and mentoring during day shift of the Trainees. The use of training log books to monitor the progress is being applied and the assessments of the trainees are done through test and field verifications. Basically:-

    • At various Plants, the Shift Supervisors will provide guidance while the experienced technicians act as“Buddy”in providing hands on Training on a one to one basis
    • MENTOR personnel work closely together with the Training Department of the various Operating Unit for the On Job Training (OJT)
    • MENTOR prepares and make available OJT manual
    • MENTOR prepares tasks for the Trainees
    • MENTOR’s personnel will sit in with the Trainees to review their progress and propose actions will be taken to close the identified gaps

In short, the above training approachis a very effective way to equip the trainees with the essential knowledge and skills to becompetent ‘Plant Operators’.With our experience, we also can develop training modules and provide Trainers to meet other needs relating to the Oil & Gas Industries.
